There’s a new Aaliyah track out, and it features The Weeknd. ‘Poison’ dropped on December 17 via Blackground Records 2.0/EMPIRE, and it marks the first new offering in more than 15 years.

Anything Aaliyah, I’m quick on the draw. But, when I heard that this was coming, I wasn’t excited about it because I’m not a big fan of The Weeknd, so I left it alone. But I saw some tweets expressing their disappointment in the track’s production, and some weren’t happy that there was an effort to put out new music.

So I had to give it a listen, and I was surprised. It’s a lovely song, but I would admit, her vocals sound a bit weird, especially in the beginning. It almost sounds as if she’s underwater. But, the song is still able to stir some emotions. I must give kudos to The Weeknd. I think he was a good choice for this song. His voice and hers sound good together.

However, what is interesting is that there has been no promotion from his end about the track. There’s no mention of it on any of his socials. I would think any artist who gets an opportunity to jump on a song with Aaliyah would want their fans to hear it. But, we wait to see what happens in the coming days.

In the meantime, listen to the track and let me know what you think in the comments.
