Now this is a big tune!
Loving that dancehall vibe! The Heatwave dropped this in time for Notting Hill Carnival which wrapped up on Monday but trust this song will be around for a long time.
Speaking about the influences for the track, The Heatwave’s Gabriel explains:
“The riddim for Walk Out Gyal actually began life as a remix of Terror Danjah’s ‘Juicy Patty’. We’ve always been into grime and very aware of the influences it’s drawn from Jamaica and dancehall, so with this we took things full circle, using Terror’s distinctive sounds and FX but rearranging everything into a minimal, bass-heavy dancehall pattern.
It clicked right from the start: we played out the instrumental at one of our Hot Wuk raves and had a few people asking us what it was, which is always a good sign! It’s got that foundation ragga sound to it, so doing that singer/MC combination style is a nod to the 90s era, and we knew it would be a great fit for Mr Lexx’s deep voice and Keida’s melodic style”.
