INTERVIEW: Xenia Ghali

What better way to begin the weekend with an interview with 2 X Billboard Dance #1 artist Xenia Ghali. Xenia is a Greek DJ, producer, songwriter and classically trained musician. After debuting on Pitbull’s label Mr. 305 Records and collaborating with Grammy Award winning rapper Wyclef Jean, Xenia followed up in style in the summer of 2016 when she released ‘Under These Lights’ on her own label Funky Sheep Records, which reached #1 in the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart. In January of this year, Xenia released ‘Places’, which also reached #1 on the charts.

I got to interview Xenia via email last month (S/O Leah) and as with all my interviews I like to get a sense of how an artist started and what inspires them daily so check out what she had to say below.

What inspired you to start?
I would have to say my parents. They wanted my sister and I to be well rounded individuals so they encouraged us to study music amongst other things.

How long have you been involved in music?
I have been involved with music since I was very young. I have been classically trained on the piano and the flute since I was 5 and at 15, I taught myself guitar and drums, formed a rock band and took my first steps in song writing. That was when I discovered my passion for music and went on to receive my Bachelor’s in Music Composition, Film Scoring and Production in the UK.
During my time in the UK I took my first steps into DJing with vinyl records and turntables. I then moved to the US for a Masters in Music Composition, Film Scoring and Production at NYU and began working as a music producer and DJ

We’re 8 months into the year, what’s been the highlight for you so far?
That’s very hard to say! I have been blessed with many incredible moments and experiences this year. A few things that really made this year special were that my single “Places” went to number 1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart, I headlined amazing festivals over the summer, I worked with some incredible musicians and I performed on FOX’s Good Day New York.

You’ve worked with some big names in the industry is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?
There are too many musicians, producers and artists that I admire in order to pick one. The list would be endless!

What inspires you daily?
The smallest things in life inspire me daily. The sun shining through the trees, the sound of a gentle wave, the image of a couple that is crazy in love. Things like that inspire me.

Any plans to drop new music soon? If yes, what can fans expect to hear from you?
Definitely! I have currently finished a few records which will be released soon and I can’t wait for you to hear them! I always try to evolve my my sound and you will definitely hear this in my upcoming releases.

When you find a little bit of downtime, what do you usually do?
I love working out. It has become part of my daily routine and I try to do kick boxing as often as possible.

What’s the last album you listened to?
Green Day – Dookie

What is your favourite song right now?
That is a very tough question! I am like a walking jukebox, I listen to hundreds of songs daily.

Finally, what one word would you use to describe yourself?
