Happy Friday!

I’ve been wanting to share this with you for some time and I finally can.

South African born songbird Avii can only be described as eclectic as her style transcends genres. The first time I heard Avii’s ‘Strangers’ I instantly became a fan.  The track channels a throwback melody with a modern sound and it’s clear that it’s not going to take long for Avii to quickly rise up the music ranks.

I got a chance to send her a few questions recently, check out her answers below. While you do, listen to ‘Strangers’

How long have you been involved in music?

Most musicians who have this much passion for their art are exposed and involved in music all their lives. I used to put of shows for my grandmother when I was younger pretending to be Whitney Houston. I went through high school joining every music group I could… any opportunity to sing. Industry-wise, I guess you could say for the last 2 or 3 years.

What or who inspired you?

As corny as this sounds it was family that inspired me. I just want to make them proud- show them it wasn’t all for nothing. That’s all there is to that one really.

‘Strangers’ what is it about?

‘Strangers’ is about exactly that. Back home I had about the crazy group of friends that would come over to our house on Hewston every weekend. It was an exhausting lifestyle where strangers become lifetime friends and lifetime friends became strangers. It’s really about being so lost in an atmosphere you end up losing yourself… sometimes it’s good to step back and look at things from the outside looking in.

What would you want people to know about your music and your style.

At the moment I am just having fun with different styles and genres. I guess could stay I’m still finding my style. I prefer to perform in a live, raw, acoustic environment. But, there is no one way to write/produce/sing any kind of song. I guess the short answer would be I’m still finding my style and myself in the industry. To do that- you have to be vulnerable.

What can we expect from you in 2016?

2016 is going to be a big year, I hope. I’m experimenting a lot- working with a lot of people old and new. I have some exciting things planned and I don’t want to give too much away just yet. Just know there will be a lot of new music released and a lot of exciting opportunities to see it performed live.

Finally, what one word would you use to describe yourself?
