I’ve listened to Laura Roy’s self-titled debut EP for the last couple of weeks and I still can’t stop playing it.
Laura Roy is a singer/songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia who has shared the stage with the likes of Canadian RnB sensation Jully Black, JRDN, Ludacris, Rakim and Freddy Gibbs. Talking about the six-track EP, Laura said, “I’ve been working on the EP for the last year and a half. I’ve tried to make sure the music represents my experiences in a way that feels true to who I am as an artist right now.”
As I listened to each track on the EP, I made little notes. Her vocal style reminds me a lot of early JoJo, that R&B infused Pop style that is catchy and addictive. My favourite tracks? ‘Looking The Other Way’, ‘Bright Lights’ and ‘Take Me Down’.
Outside of those notes, I can say from the moment you hit play on the first track you’ll know you’re in for a grand time. When you’re finished you’ll have an overwhelming feeling of euphoria. That is the euphoria you get after you listen to good music and you’re gonna want that feeling all the time, so embrace it and hit that play button again and again.
