It was back in June when I reviewed Kylie Odetta’s ‘Undertow‘ EP. An EP that I enjoyed a lot and in identifying my favourite tracks, I listed ‘Undertow’ as one of them.
“Now Kylie sings beautifully on every track but there’s something about this song. It’s the way she sings, it’s the lyrics, that really gets to me. I had this on repeat for a while.”
That I did. It has been a while since I listened to it so hearing now as she released the official video, it’s like hearing it for the first time and falling in love with it all over again.
Kylie explains that the song wong was written based on a personal experience that she had with a relationship that was constantly pulling her me back in and then pushing her away.
“We all have moments in life where we are swept up in our emotions, caught in the riptide of our thoughts, treading back and forth between the “undertow” that is our head and our heart. To symbolize the tragic and epic way experiencing such deep emotions can feel we decided to do an epic and somewhat tragic thing by bringing an upright piano into the ocean and then filming a music video in 35mph winds on Folly Beach in South Carolina.”
